Chilli tuna steak / chilli tuna / Kulhimas / spicy tuna / how to cook fresh tuna

Here is a quick and simple Kulhimas recipe. This is a chilli powder and tomato paste based recipe of Kulhimas. There is a dry curry version of Kulhimas as well. In Sha Allah will upload curry version of Kulhimas / hanaakuri mas some other day. Hope you like this.
Ingredients:
- 300 gram fresh tuna
- 3 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 nos. medium onion
- 3 nos. garlic cloves
- 1 ginger slice / 1 tsp grated ginger
- 20 nos. curry leaves
- 2 rampa leaf piece (3")
- 2 fresh green chilli (according to your taste)
- 1/4 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
- 1 tbsp chilli powder / lonumirus havaadhu
- 1/2 tbsp tomato paste
- salt to taste
- 3/4 cup water
Directions:
- Thinly slice onion and finely chop the garlics.
- Slice tuna loin into 1/2 inch pieces. I have used skipjack tuna loin. Can substitute to other types of fish. Can cut it into cubes as well. I like to cut into steaks like this when I am making this for dinner to eat with rice and into cubes when I am making it eat with roshi/flat bread.
- In a pan on low heat add cooking oil, sliced onion, chopped garlic, curry leaves, ginger slice and rampa leaf and saute till onions are slightly tender.
- Add fresh chilli, cumin powder, black pepper powder, chilli powder/lonumirus havaadhu and cook 1-2 minutes. Stir frequently.
- Add tomato paste and salt to taste. Cook 2-3 minutes while stiring frequently (note: I added salt 1/2 tsp at this stage and later added 1/4 tsp after checking the taste. Could not show it in the video while adding at this stage).
- Add fresh tuna steaks and mix well for 1-2 minutes. Flip the pieces from side to side.
- Add water and mix well. Check if salt is according to your taste. Add more salt if necessary. I added 1/4 tsp more. Cook 3-5 minutes on low to medium heat or until the sauce is little bit thick according to your desired consistency.
- Enjoy with roshi/flat bread or rice.
