Modak are sweet stuffed dumplings offered to Lord Ganesha as a Prasad during Ganesh chaturthi puja. The sweet filling on the inside of a Modak consists of freshly grated Dry fruits with sugar powder and cardamom powder while the outer soft shell is made from Semolina, milk and Milkmaid mixture. You just can’t imagine the mouthwatering taste . The Modak is the favorite sweet of the Hindu deity, Lord Ganesha . It begets him the oinker modakapriya (one who likes modak) in Sanskrit. Modak is a mouth watering treat with its unique taste and texture. Preparing Modak at home is not at all time consuming. So , you must try it on this Ganesh Chaturthi. INGREDIENTS - 1 Cup Semolina - 1 Cup Desiccated Coconut. ( easily Available in market ). - 1 Cup Finely Chopped Dry Fruits like Almonds, Pistachios n Cashew Nuts. ( You can add any Dry fruits of your choice ). - Saffron soaked in Milk. - 1 Cup Milk, - 1 Cup Milk Maid. - 3-4 Tbsp Sugar Powder along with Cardamom Powder. - 2-3 Tbsp Clarified Butter ( Desi Ghee ). RECIPE Making Mixture for Modak. - Put 2-3 Tbsp of Clarified butter in a heated Pan. - Put Semolina, Roast on medium Flames, Keep Stirring Constantly. We have to roast the semolina for 2-3 minutes only and don’t allow to change its color. - Add Milk maid and mix well, Keep Stirring. - Add Saffron and mix. - Add little a little milk in Phases, Keep Stirring . Add as much milk as it enable the semolina to fluff well. - Once Semolina gets fluffy , transfer it to a Pot and set aside for cooling. Mixture ( Dough ) for making Modak is ready. Now we make the Filling Stuff - Put the Chopped Dry fruits i.e. Almonds, Pistachios and Cashew nuts in a Heated Pan and roast. You can add any dry fruit of your choice. - Once roasted , Transfer to a Pot. - Add sugar – cardamom Powder and Mix well. Filling Stuff is ready. Now we make Modak By now the mixture ( Dough ) gets cooled. - Apply some Clarified Butter ( Desi Ghee ) on Hand. - Knead the Dough softly. - Take a Modak Mould in hand . Mould is easily available in Market. - Pour some Desiccated Coconut on both sides of Mould. - Fill dough in both sides of Mould nicely and close the mould. - Clean the residual Dough from sides of Mould. - Make a Gap in the Bottom in Dough with the help of finger. - Fill in the Gap a ½ of Tbsp of Dry fruits and close it with the dough and press , so that it closes properly. - Open the Mould, - Take out the Beautiful Modak - It looks so well that you may tempted to eat it . Prepare all the Modak like this. Modak are ready, put it in a plate. First offer to Lord Ganesha.
