This ship has been in testing for a very long time, lets see what WG managed to come up with. @poopsie1173 years ago You’re 100% right about saying this ship was designed by executives — they released Constellation T8 with radar so WG definitely said “now we need a Soviet T8 BB with radar to appease the CIS servers” and came up with this steaming pile of doodoo. ... 6

This ship just works for me.
I essentially play it as a cruiser and I get rewarded for it greatly. 5

@TheExcessive13 years ago I got it, 32mm on the bow would be too strong. But there are a lot of thicknesses between 25 and 32mm. I would bet that a good compromise would be 27mm or possibly even 30mm, as I agree, it can get beat up in a hurry from other BBs and even some up-tier CAs. Hopefully after some real life stats come in WG adjusts this accordingly. I have found the guns to be pretty accurate with good dispersion. So not sure why you are seeing something different. ... 8

@tchen25563 years ago I think you've summed things up pretty well - in solo randoms the borodino melts under concentrated fire, and you won't get close enough to use that radar unless you duck behind an island. But for teamplay, at tier, it's pretty powerful, especially in a ranked/competitive scenario where there are just less guns pointed at you. That radar is just so valuable in that scenario. ...

@old_guard24312 years ago Appreciate the review - was looking at this ship in the premium shop and wondering about it. With that weak a nose I would ordinarily try to get close then kite away. But no rear turret. . .
None of the following points contradict your conclusions:
1. You apparently get Tier IX guns (Sovietsky Soyuz) with substantially more penetration than the American equivalents, not to mention the tech tree Vlad the Impaler. This may contribute to the substantial overpen issue. I would use more HE if I were playing it, but that is a work-around rather than a solution.
2. The penetration of the AP shells plus the weak bow would point to playing at more of a distance. But there is too much of that anyway, and the radar would only be useful for the occasional rogue destroyer that moves into your spawn to pick on battleships and carriers.
3. The reworked skills would not help a four-barrel secondary arsenal enough to be work the skill points. On the other hand, Vigilance now gives you improved torpedo protection (7%), which would be of some use. ... 1

@rare_kumiko3 years ago I quite like my Borodino. You gotta play safely but the guns are fairly powerful and reasonably accurate and I'm getting some pretty high damage numbers on it. I wouldn't complain about 0.1 more sigma, but the guns still work. ... 6

@eliricalis3 years ago The ships suffers the same issue as the Constellation: its a battle cruiser. Utility with the radar but it cannot fight and tank under sustained fire. If you want to blow some money, you're better off waiting for the Missouri when it goes on sale. ... 1

@prisonerofthehighway10592 years ago If you want a well armored, accurate battleship with radar, I recommend Petropavlovsk or Moskva. Petro even gets decent AA lol.

Then some jerk in Borodino pushed me out of that position…
Next thing I know, I got wrecked and that Borodino later became the sole survivor of our side. ...

@kostasmats79222 years ago I got it from a santa crate, 5 games, 5 wins. I average 127k dmg, 2.4 kills, 1,4m potential dmg. She works for me, guns are accurate enough, sometimes vertical dispersion sucks, sometimes they are lasers..

@filipkotlaja86973 years ago I know you are not a betting man, but it would be a safe bet that it is gonna be used as an argument that "russian bias" is not a thing. />On a more serious note, it gives up way too much for the radar. It is a nice idea, but given how WG balances the ship around a gimmick and not the gimmick around the ship.... i would always take a 10km radar, for instance, with the same 30s duration, but with more accurate, faster reloading guns. Maybe with 4x2 turret arrangement instead. ... 12

@repaleonhalo97543 years ago Ive had plenty of 1 hit per salvo at 7km and such. Some ships are horrendeus at close range even though they are suppose to be brawlers like Tirpitz and Roma. I have much better accuracy at 15 to 20km range that under 10km cause the stupid shells come out the barrel so wide they dont have time to tighten up, or worse they keep going wider. Its just bullshit how bad maximum despersion can be. The game is to forgiving and people can sail around tanking damage or potentiel damage full broadside or stationary bow in, all of it with 0 effort. ...

@zktwo3 years ago It seems like wg is diving a bit too much into the hole of overly-specialized premium ships. The Plymouth, Tiger '59, Austin, Borodino, and probably more are all overly specialized. The Austin and Plymouth both turned out okay and are especially good in divs, but the ships are otherwise lacking. Tiger is close to useless without a triple div, Borodino isn't much better. I'm glad these ships aren't op like og Belfast, but wg does need to fine a happy medium. ... 1

@monkeyrater3 years ago Youre very wrong about what this ship is. Its basically the Roma with better accuracy. And the guns do NOT overpen EVERYTHING, they overpen DDs and cruisers, but they do hellacious damage to BB broadsides, easily dev striking Vermonts. And the secondaries do what they are supposed to do, kill DDs, they can kill a DD in usually 4 or 5 salvos. Considering how everyone loves the Roma I cant see why people wouldnt love this ship. ... 1
